News to know

Report, don't repost
If you see or hear of a possible threat, please report it to school staff and/or submit a tip using our reporting system. This is the best and most helpful action because it begins an investigation and helps to limit the potential for misinformation to spread. Emergencies should always be reported to 911.

Closing this weekend: ‘Sister Act Jr.’
Based on the hit 1992 film and Tony-nominated Broadway musical, "Sister Act Jr." is the feel-good musical comedy that will have audiences jumping to their feet! The show closes March 28. Get tickets.

Spring break camp through Right at School
Looking for something for your child to do during spring break? Consider Right At School’s spring break camp. Each day of the camp will bring new opportunities for students to solve riddles, build inventions and bring stories to life through hands-on STEM and literacy-inspired challenges.

About this year’s camp:
📍 Glenwood Heights Primary
📅 April 6–10
⏰ 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Cost: $60 per day

Battle Ground Education Foundation to host spring soirée

The event is Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Purchase tickets.

Standardized testing opportunities
In April, students will have a chance to take the ASVAB and/or world language test. ASVAB scores are used to determine if someone is qualified to enlist in the military and to assign someone to an appropriate job in the military. Scores above 31 also will fulfill graduation pathway requirements. Register online by April 18 for the test on April 25.

World language tests give students a chance to earn up to four credits and possibly the State Seal of Biliteracy on their diploma. Register online by April 10 for the test on April 25.

BGPS highlight

A million dollars for a million words: Students learn the earning potential of literacy
River HomeLink students reached a major literacy milestone this month, reading one million words or more since the first day of school. The achievement came as part of English teacher Ryan Anderson's challenge to his students: Read a book for 20 minutes every day since the first day of school. At the average teenage reading pace of about 250 words per minute, the students' intake quickly added up.

By March 16, students who kept up with the routine officially crossed the million-word threshold, a moment the class celebrated as "Million Word Monday.” See how they celebrated and find out how much reading can boost lifetime earning potential.

This is just one example of the many good things happening in our schools every day. For more highlights, visit the news section of the district website, subscribe to the BGPS Bulletin and follow us on Facebook and/or Instagram.
