What do you get when high school students work with legal professionals to learn about real-world case law and the judicial system? A special academic competition called Mock Trial. Over the course of several months, teams receive a case and prepare to serve as both attorneys and witnesses, building skills in public speaking, critical thinking and teamwork. This year’s case, a scenario titled “Cell to Cell,” centered on a fictional collision involving distracted driving and a pedestrian injury.
At the recent Clark County Mock Trial, four Battle Ground students earned top marks competing on Cascadia Tech Academy's teams, which garnered the most nominations in the competition. Congratulations to the following:
Luna Bracke, River HomeLink, nominated for Best Witness
Hailey Goldsmith, Battle Ground High School, nominated for Best Witness and Best Attorney
Mary G., Battle Ground High School, nominated for Best Witness and Best Attorney
Micah Nelson, CAM Academy, nominated for Best Attorney
Cascadia Tech's red team placed second overall and advanced to the state tournament.
