River Online Programs

River Online has a variety of online learning programs that support a students’ learning needs. Not everyone learns the same, so we try to accommodate different learning styles. For example, some of our programs are reading based with written instruction while others offer more video media for visual learners.

Our K-5 program, Accelerate Education, provides a highly visual and hands-on experience for young learners and their parents.

We want to assure you that even though your student may not be physically going into school everyday, they can still receive a high-quality engaging education from dedicated instructors that move them forward in their learning. All of these programs include support from our River Online Learning teachers and support staff.

K-5 Program Information

Accelerate Education provides an online education for Kindergarten through 5th grade to the needs of all students, from at-risk students who have trouble succeeding in the traditional classroom to high achieving students seeking an advanced pace. Attention: Elementary age students will require extensive assistance from their Learning Coach which is usually a parent or guardian, while teachers take more of an advisory role.

Students are required to complete their work according to the pacing guide, which is determined by the start and end dates. Working at a steady pace will allow on-time completion of courses. The student’s daily schedule is up to the student and parent. Synchronous sessions (direct instruction) are scheduled by the teacher and meetings regarding progress are scheduled once a month with the student and parents.

Middle Level Program Information – Grades 6-8

Our middle level program uses the Edmentum online courseware. Edmentum partners closely with your child’s district, school, and teachers to ensure they have quality assessments for learning, digital curriculum, and educational services. No matter what the learning environment, be confident that your child’s education is in good hands. Most middle school age students will require assistance and course monitoring with their learning coach, which is usually a parent or guardian, while teachers take more of an advisory role.

High School Level Program Information – Grades 9-12

Our high school program uses a combination of programs to fit student’s interests and needs. The three main platforms are Edgeniuty, Apex and Edmentum. All three programs use a research-based instructional design and are aligned to state and national standards. They also provide an easy-to-use platform to help students monitor tasks and track progress.

Edgenuity – These online courses use a series of direct-instruction videos from expert, on-screen teachers with interactive learning tools and resources to engage and motivate students. Students work at their own pace completing units and quizzes toward mastery of the content.

Apex – These online courses break up the content through a series of units, 7-8 per course and smaller subunits and quizzes. Apex content is primarily reading based. Students need to have at least an 8th grade reading proficiency to successfully master the content. Students work at their own pace completing units and quizzes toward mastery of the content.

Edmentum – These online courses use a combination of video, reading, and writing based material. Students are required to do more writing within Edmentum courses. Students work at their own pace completing units and quizzes toward mastery of the content.
